Everyday I'm thanking the universe for the advent of social media. I remember the days of direct marketing and the high cost that went along with it. You could only work your but off at a 9 to 5 or hope someone would foot the bill for a small marketing and advertising campaign in a newspaper, local radio, or public access tv. ow social media has been finetuned to work for the average marketer who has all the time on their hands. Your success in using it to make money totally rest on the trust factor and building an all important loyal following or targeted list using the 80/20 rule. For example, right now I have 800 plus social media friends on Facebook. I post relevant information every week or help someone with some important business or marketing request and the rewards are great. I've seen a steady increase in my sites visitors some who become regular users. I've also landed new business contracts as a result of forming relationships and showing users that I'm not simply there to hang out and post trivial stuff but to help out however I can. I never try to sell anything directly there either because that's not what they want. I make whatever I post juicy and compelling enough for FB users to want to know more about me or the product or service I have on my site. I DO NOT sell or solicit in anyone's face (virtually speaking).
Used the right way for marketing, social media is a beneficial tool, but used or abused recklessly and you get labeled an annoying spammer.
